The Plan
15 bed shelter
Rotating among Marquette area churches
Each church would house the shelter for one week at a time
Each hosting congregation would house the shelter 3-4 weeks during the year
Other congregations would assist hosting churches by helping with volunteers.
Shelter will be staffed with volunteers – from the churches,
community, and NMU students.
The Room at the Inn is not an answer to the homeless issue in Marquette
But it is a positive response….something we can do.
Resident Criteria
At least 18 years old
Be able to perform own personal hygiene
Be able to leave shelter during the day
Be able to rise and lower themselves off a 4 inch mattress
Be able to climb stairs without assistance
Be responsible for own medications
Must be cooperative and non-violent
Must not use alcohol or illegal drugs while at the shelter
Expectations of Volunteers
At least 18 years old
Attend additional training as needed
No use of alcohol or illegal drugs while on duty
Job Duty Categories
Intake worker 5:30 – 10:00 pm
Shift 1 10:00 pm – 2:00 am
Shift 2 2:00 am – 6:00 am
Set Up Sunday afternoon
Break down Sunday Morning
Meals Every Day – Breakfast 6:00AM Dinner 6:30PM.
Laundry - At the end of the week.
